University of Louisiana at Lafayette named as
2019 William R. “Bill” Adam Formula SAE® Vehicle Development Grant Recipient
Formula SAE is proud to announce that the 2019 William R. “Bill” Adam Formula SAE Vehicle Development Grant has been presented to University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Established in 2004, the William R. “Bill” Adam Formula SAE ® Vehicle Development Grant provides funding to a Formula SAE team to assist with the development of their Formula SAE project. This grant honors Mr. Adam's contribution to FSAE and his lifelong dedication to mentoring young engineers. A 35-year member of Formula SAE and longtime supporter of Formula SAE, Bill was an engineer in the automotive industry for more than 40 years working on vehicle development, testing and correlation.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette. University of Louisiana at Lafayette racing team, Ragin' Cajun Racing, used this grant towards their 2019 car to purchase an electronic control unit (ECU). Their plan was to take the old ECU off their very first car built in 2017. This was their second year participating in Formula SAE and as a second-year organization, they were able to establish a stronger core foundation through continuous development of team structure. With very little funding from sponsors, the William R. Adam Grant was able to truly help this team accel in their second year at Formula SAE. The grant has contributed to the development and experience of their future engineers; many of whom will enrich the industry upon graduation.
This grant is administered by the SAE Foundation, and applications are reviewed by Mrs. Pat Adam and Mrs. Julie Koerber, Mr. Adam’s daughter. The selected applicant will receive a $500 grant which must be used toward the development of the vehicle. Interested in nominating your team for the grant?
