2021 Formula SAE Rules for Public Review

5/18/2020 1:26:53 PM   FormulaSAE Series

The Draft Formula SAE Rules for 2021 are now available for review and comment.

For the 2021 season, we wanted to make no changes that will prevent a team from using what they have already designed and built for 2020. We also wanted to continue to improve the rules and address items that have been identified during the 2020 season. If you find something in the 2021 rules that may not allow you to use what you have done for 2020, please provide a comment and we will look into it.

Changes in the Formula SAE 2021 rules include: (not a complete list!)

  • Rewrite of Electric Vehicle section
  • Rewrite of Bodywork and Aerodynamics section
  • Improved figures
  • Use of Cockpit Templates
  • Clarify Component Protection and Cylinder Location requirements
  • Submission Penalties
  • Driver Equipment (allowable specs)
  • And many minor changes to improve the format and readability

Do not just review the changes listed. Feel free to give us comments on the entire document.

Please give us feedback on rules and changes you like, as well as those you do not like.

If there is an issue with a rule or a portion of it, please provide enough explanation so that we can understand the issue. If you have a recommended solution or possible new wording, provide that as well.

Anyone may submit comments, including competitors, alumni, judges, officials. Only serious comments and feedback will be considered for review. Anonymous submissions will not be considered. We ask for your contact information in case we have a question or would like to contact you.
