SCALES AREA – Formula SAE Electric

Last Updated 2.17.2025

EVENT CAPTAINS: Alton Worthington and Tristan Koivisto
ON-SITE LOCATIONS: Garage 1 Pass-thru

SCALES AREA OVERVIEW:
As part of Design judging, each vehicle at competition will be weighed on site.

Before their design review appointment, each team must bring their vehicle in "ready to race" condition to the Scales station. The vehicle will be weighed both without a driver for a total prepared vehicle weight and with a driver for weight balance percentages (front % and left %).

Vehicles will be spot-checked for readiness/completeness, specifically. Vehicles must:

  • Be on the dry competition wheels/tires
  • Have a battery for operating the electrical system
  • Contain lubricants and coolant consistent with competition prep
  • Have all bodywork/other components
  • Be presented with the accumulator installed (does not need to be connected)
  • The team must also provide a driver with full safety equipment (shoes, suit, helmet, gloves, etc.) for the scaling.

Vehicles will be rolled onto scale pads approximately 60mm high using ramps with approximately 8 degree incline. Vehicles unable to be rolled onto scales will be lifted by team members.

Incomplete vehicles will not have a weight recorded.

Additionally, vehicle accumulators will be weighed separately during the accumulator SES inspection process.
