Student teams planning to use a team-built Ready to Move (RTM) indicator must submit testing data and an image of the projected light pattern to meet FMVSS 108 compliance. This ensures the indicator projects a minimum amount of light forward, as required for ESF acceptance. Testing requires a light meter capable of reading LUX to the tenth of a digit, a power supply providing 12.8V, a dark testing environment, and specific measurement locations. Technical Inspectors may retest non-compliant indicators on-site, and additional FMVSS 108 requirements, including vibration, corrosion, dust, and moisture resistance, will be evaluated. To avoid delays, teams are strongly advised to have two FMVSS 108-approved amber indicators as backups.
For full details and submission requirements, please refer to the official guideline and template available in the online series resources under Technical Inspection - Electric Vehicle and EV Templates.
