Spectator Guidelines for Formula SAE

Welcome, Spectators!

A spectator is anyone attending the event who is not:

  • A volunteer with event operating responsibilities, or
  • A member of a team with official credentials.

Event volunteers and team members are usually easy to identify by their t-shirts, uniforms, or badges.

Where You Can Go
Spectators are welcome to enjoy the competitions from designated spectator areas and other public areas you’re allowed to access. These include:

  • Spectator areas outside the course
  • Team paddocks
  • Parking lots, food vendor areas, restrooms, and connecting walkways/paths

Where You Cannot Go
For your safety and the safety of participants, spectators are not allowed in:

  • Technical inspection areas, practice/testing sites
  • Static Judging event areas
  • Dynamic event areas, such as track or practice areas
  • Areas marked with “Restricted Access” or “No Access” signs

Additional rules:

  • Do not sit or stand on barriers or fences
  • Closed-toe shoes are required
  • Unauthorized entry into restricted areas may result in ejection from the event

Drone Policy
Use of drones is strictly prohibited unless officially contracted with SAE International.

Safety Enforcement
If a spectator enters an unauthorized area, the event may pause immediately until the area is cleared.

Student Team Members:
Even students not part of the active event crew are considered spectators and must follow all rules. No exceptions.

Photography
All photos must be taken from designated spectator areas. Photographers who enter restricted areas may be asked to leave.

No Exceptions
Spectator rules are strict. Anyone not following the guidelines may be asked to return to the spectator area or leave the site entirely.
